A key route into Southend town centre is set for repair and resurfacing works as part of continued essential maintenance of the A127.
The stretch of road along Victoria Avenue - between Cuckoo Corner Roundabout and the traffic light junction between Carnarvon Road and Harcourt Avenue – is scheduled for repair and resurfacing works on both the Southend and London-bound carriageways.
The work involves filling voids under the concrete carriageway, repairing the concrete and then resurfacing the carriageway. These works will commence on the London-bound carriageway from Monday 11 January 2021 for a period of approximately two weeks, followed by a further two weeks of works on the Southend-bound carriageway. Both direction’s closures will be between the hours of 8pm and 6.30am Monday to Friday. Road closures and diversions will be clearly signposted in advance of and during the works, and are in place for the safety of the public and Eurovia workers during this time.
Residents directly affected by the road closure area will be granted access, and a diversion route will be in place for all other traffic – please see diversion route diagram below.
Cllr Ron Woodley, cabinet member for transport, capital and inward investment, said: “Over the last few months, Eurovia have been able to successfully carry out repair and resurfacing works, as part of the council’s emergency maintenance programme, on a number of poor stretches of the A127, the main route in and out of the borough. As part of this continued work, they will proceed with further repair work along Victoria Avenue in the new year.
“This is essential maintenance work to improve a stretch of road directly into the town centre and shows this administration’s commitment to investing in improving the Borough’s roads and footways. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, but residents and visitors will see the benefits once the work is complete.”
