Southend LuminoCity welcomes new sponsor

Southend LuminoCity just got a whole lot brighter, with Southend BID now confirmed as a new sponsor to help bring another spectacular installation to the light festival.

The installation will be situated in Royal Square, connecting the High Street and the seafront. The installation is the ninth confirmed for the free festival which runs from 10am – 10pm, Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19 February 2022.

Southend BID manager, Ashley Oglina-Beecham, said: “Southend BID are absolutely delighted to be collaborating with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council on what will be an unprecedented event for the town. The LuminoCity Festival is not only an exciting light festival and immersive art experience; it's also perfectly fitting for Southend as we celebrate our newly awarded City status.

“This event will attract thousands of visitors, drawing locals and tourists alike to our High Street and seafront during half term, increasing footfall which will of course be invaluable for local businesses, whilst proving to be a unique and memorable attraction. Through beautiful pieces of art, we hope to celebrate our city status and showcase the wonderful creativity that brings LuminoCity Festival to life.” Southend BID was formed in 2013 to ensure that the High Street and seafront businesses make the most of their combined potential and raise the profile of Southend. Southend LuminoCity brings international artworks to the city across the High Street and down to the seafront giving residents and visitors a unique experience and showcasing Southend-on-Sea in a new light.

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture, tourism and planning, welcomed the news. She said: “It is fantastic that Southend BID have joined the festival as a sponsor, which has enabled us to bring yet another awe-inspiring installation to the town. There is still time for local businesses to get involved and sponsor the other installations, and we are also still on the lookout for volunteers for the festival, so don’t miss out on being involved in this magical event.” Businesses can get involved and become a sponsor by emailing Culture&tourism@southend.gov.uk. Southend LuminoCity is also looking for enthusiastic volunteers to engage with residents and visitors. For more information, please visit Volunteer | Southend LuminoCity
